This site is under development. If you have any relevant information you would like us to use please contact us. The Dumfries & Galloway Hard of Hearing Group came into existence in March of this year, having been know as the D & G Lip Reading Club for the past 12 years . We are expanding our group by including all people in Dumfries & Galloway with a hearing loss and their families. We aim to have a website and eventually drop in centres where we can provide information and general advice on hearing loss and maintenance on hearing aids. Lip Reading classes can help a person with a hearing loss to gain confidence when communicating with others and socialising. The exercises teach you how to lip read the various speech movements and lip patterns with the help of facial expressions and body language. There are information slots where you learn about hearing aids, equipment available and hearing conditions such as tinnitis. We aim to help you relax and become more confident in using your hearing aids and communicating. The classes are very friendly. There are 3 Lip Reading Classes in Dumfries & Galloway at the moment : Monday, Dalbeattie Community Centre 2-4pm. Wednesday, Greyfriars House, St.Cuthbert St, Kirkcudbright 2-4pm and Lochthorn Library, Dumfries 2-4pm. Unfortunately these classes come to a close for the summer this month (April) but will re-start at the beginning of September this year. Please contact our Tutor, Helen Shannon. This website lets people find information about public services in Scotland which has been translated into Polish. There are over 200 pieces of information on this website. The Scottish Government provided the financial resources to do this. SCoD is aware that some National Council member organisations have produced health information that is available either on their website or on CD/DVD. SCoD is in the process of trying to find out what health information has been produced in Scotland for Deaf sign language users. We would like to know what your organisation has produced, when it was produced, and what your organisation/service users think are the gaps in the available information. Once this information is gathered, SCoD will write a report which will be submitted to NHS Scotland and the Scottish Consumer Council. The report will also be available on the SCoD website.
